As of 16. September 2011, the Swiss Government (Bundesrat) has opened a public consultation on a preliminary draft of the law on the electronic patient record to be introduced for every citizen. The consultation will end on 20. December 2011. The law closes a legal gap on the way towards implementing the Swiss eHealth Strategy of 2007 („Strategie eHealth Schweiz"). As a key input and base for this process, empirica recently prepared a "Regulatory impact analysis pertaining to the preliminary draft of the Federal Law on the Electronic Health Record", a summary of which is now also available in English. The study was undertaken for the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH (http://www.bag.admin.ch/aktuell/) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO (www.seco.admin.ch/ ) It was prepared in cooperation with ECOPLAN Economic Research and Policy Consultancy in Berne (Link: http://www.ecoplan.ch).
