empirica participates in International Patient Summary evaluation as part of large scale emergency response exercise

On 15-16 October 2018, empirica, together with partners HL7, gnomonsa, MedCom, SPMS and SRDC formed the Trillium II team present at the 5th European Union Module Exercise (EU MODEX-Ro) in Bucharest, Romania. The goal pursued was to evaluate the International Patient Summary (IPS) in the context of a disaster management and emergency response exercise. As part of Trillium II, empirica is responsible for the evaluation and impact assessment acitivities.

The exercise EU MODEX-Ro simulated the response to the devastation caused by a 7.5 Richter earthquake in Bucharest. The scenario envisioned a situation in which Romania declares a State of Emergency and requests international assistance. Among the earthquake victim role players, 20 had their IPS on their mobile phones, allowing for the evaluation of three different IPS apps, as well as the evaluation of the IPS concept in disaster medicine more broadly. The output from the evaluation will be used in several Trillium II deliverables (in WP3, WP4 and WP6).
