MD-Paedigree (Model-Driven Paediatric European Digital Repository) wins ICT2013 Best Exhibit Award

MD-Paedigree, a clinically-driven, VPH-rooted project in which empirica is key project partner, was awarded the Best Exhibit Award at the ICT2013 conference. Over 200 exhibitors and 5500 participants from all over the world flocked to Vilnius, Lithuania to attend Europe’s biggest digital technology event. Organized by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the European Commission (EC), ICT2013 was among the most anticipated high-level events run under Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2013.

“I am confident that the ground-breaking research of MD-Paedigree will open up a new perspective for pediatric research and lead to a future where child healthcare will be more effective, more personalised, and even more affordable,” concluded Bruno Dallapiccola, MD- Paedigree Project Coordinator and Scientific Director of the Pediatric Hospital Bambino Gesí¹ in Rome, Italy.

At ICT2013, MD-Paedigree hosted a booth with demonstrations of its innovative technology, conducted a networking session dedicated to Big data and data analytics impact in healthcare and issued a discussion paper on the subject to participants. The project applies big data analytics to routine clinical data that involves children and brings together all information and knowledge in a (private) cloud with the latter forming the basis of a Smart Analytics service meant to provide the following fundamental functionalities:

1) Similarity search, enabling clinicians to access “patient like mine” and patients to find “patients exactly like me”;

2) Model-based patient-specific simulation and prediction;

3) Patient-specific clinical workflow.

At ICT2013, MD-Paedigree’s decision support capacities were demonstrated by allowing visitors to use the system themselves.

Additional Information:
MD-Paedigree, which is funded under European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme, develops a model-driven data and workflow-based digital repository, leveraging an information processing and knowledge discovery evolutionary framework, for personalised and predictive treatment in paediatrics. Empirica is Work Package leader and will perform health technology assessment, plan the exploitation strategy and consult project partners on the regulatory issues of medical device commercialisation and innovation diffusion.
