empirica runs new study about entrepreneurship in developing countries

On behalf of the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD), empirica now leads a study about entrepreneurship in developing countries. Together with the University of Kassel, empirica will analyse nine related projects co-funded by DAAD. For two projects, in-depth case studies will be carried out. For the other seven, information will be collected from project documentation as well as in interviews with the project leaders and other major participants. All projects are run in the framework of a programme for enhancing contacts between universities and business in developing countries. Countries covered include South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Ghana, Ruanda, Kenia, Ethiopia, Egypt, Azerbaidjan, and Vietnam. “It is intriguing to see how entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education are gaining momentum in developing countries, even in countries with rigid central governments”, says study manager Stefan Lilischkis. “The study may show how entrepreneurship can be well promoted at universities under the special economic, social and political conditions in these countries.” Results will be documented in a final report, planned to be made publicly available by the end of 2017.
